Abstract

Solitary fibrous tumor (SFT) is a rare spindle cell neoplasm that arises most commonly in the pleura and rarely occurs in the pelvic cavity. SFTs are generally benign, and the malignant form accounts for 12-22%. We report on a 65-year-old man who presented with an incidentally detected, growing asymptomatic pelvic mass and underwent complete surgical resection. The pathological examination of the tumor revealed a malignant SFT with microscopically positive surgical margin. Because of the malignant nature and positive surgical margin, adjuvant radiation therapy was administered. The patient has no evidence of disease 1 year after the surgery.
